Who we are
Stone Drum Company produces handmade snare-drums. Located in Luxembourg the company is run by father & son, Rick and Erik. Working as a carpenter with a master craftsman diploma and trained wood turner, Rick brings a wide range of knowledge to the production of stave drums. Erik, is mainly responsible for checking the final stage of the products. He does the tuning and testing to keep a constant quality before putting the drums out for sale.
From the beginning till the end every piece of wood is self cut, dried, processed, arranged and put together. The wood selection is 100% eco friendly and comes from local resources. This is ensured by the partnership with the ‘Nature- & Geopark Mëllerdall’ foundation in 2018.
The local resources enable the company to bring a variety of different woods to the pallet such as the classic/popular trees (Birch – Beach) & fruit trees (Apple – Prune – Cherry – Pear).
In 2024 Stone Drum Company started working together with a local metalsmith from Luxembourg (FerroDesign). Together they designed unique looking snare hardware. The lugs & hoops are forged by hand and every single piece is put together by an experienced master.
Since 2019 Stone Drum Company products have the official ‘Made in LU’ label.
How it’s made
At Stone Drum Company, our process starts with selecting premium hardwood that we cut into segments to form the foundation of our stave drums. We carefully join the wood pieces into a solid shell, paying close attention to grain alignment and tonal character. Using the Wood turning technique on a lathe, we shape and refine the shell until it reaches perfect balance, thickness, and resonance. We finish the bearing edges and snare beds by hand, giving each drum its own voice, warmth, and handcrafted identity.
How it sounds
The Anvil delivers a warm, focused tone with powerful projection and a rich fundamental note. The solid-shell construction provides clear attack, controlled overtones, and impressive sensitivity at low dynamics. When played harder, the drum opens up with depth and authority without losing clarity. Praised in a 2024 Slagwerkrant review for its musical character and wide tuning range, The Anvil offers a versatile sound suited for both studio and stage.
